short girl problems

I try whenever possible to shop in the petite section.  I’m by no means a skinny girl.  I do have curves; however, I stand a little less than 5’2″.  Banana Republic, Loft, Ann Taylor, etc. are the choice for work clothes and sometimes casual wear.  Finding clothes proportionate to my height can be difficult sometimes.  I have to get clothes altered more often than not, which adds up when it comes the wallet, especially since I don’t have mom around to help me out.  😦

Sister and mom went thrifting at Haight Ashbury yesterday and would text me if they saw anything I was interested in.  My sister sent me a picture messages of this maxi dress, which was my size.

Sorry for the crappy picture quality.  Blame my sister.

Anyhow, you can faintly see in the picture that the cinching of the waist is right below her bust (She’s a little over 5’5″).  Unfortunately, when I tried it on it was right below my belly button!  I already knew it would be too long and have to be hemmed at the bottom but the torso of the dress was just too long.  Why not give the dress to your sister then?  It’s actually fitted on her and wasn’t comfortable in it.  So my mom has generously offered to hem it while she’s here to fit my munchkin body.  YAY for moms!

A couple months ago, I purchased a BCBG wrap dress with pockets (BCBG = LOVE! wrap dress = LOVE!  dress with pockets = LOVE!) for work but the dolman sleeves looked like batwings and again I had the same problem of where the waist of the dress sitting low on my body.  I took it to the tailor thinking I could get it altered.  They said no.  😦  So I’ve been hanging onto it and had my sister try it on.  It was a PERFECT FIT!  SMH!  It’s exactly what she needed to increase her work wardrobe for her new job.  I guess my misfortunes and impulse buys are her treasures.

Short girl problems are rough!
