Trippin’ – What’s in my make-up bag?

Since I’m going on a two week vacation soon I decided to share what I’ll be planning to take with me on my trip.  I’ll be trying to downsize and take less with me this trip due to the baggage weight restrictions, since we’ll be flying on multiple airlines to get to our various destinations (four cities).  On business trips, I bring more which isn’t really necessary but I like to have options.  You’d think I’d pack less being a business traveler, a la George Clooney in Up in the Air.  Yeah… no.  Far from it.  I always pack more.  In the upcoming weeks, I’ll probably do a couple of posts of what I’ll be taking with me.  Clothes, toiletries (which usually causes all the weight issues in my bag), shoes, jewelry, etc.  For now here’s what I have planned to go into my make-up bag.

It’ll be anywhere from 80 – 110 during the day where we’re going (going to four different cities), I will not be bringing everyday foundation with me.  In the summer, my face is combination/oily, so I need something lightweight.  So I’ll be bringing Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer.  I LOVE this stuff.  The coverage is better than that of a drugstore tinted moisturizer, but doesn’t feel as heavy as foundation.  I originally tried this stuff with the Oil Free Flawless Face Kit, which comes with primer (love.  it helps prevent the breakouts, at least for me), tinted moisturizer, undercover pot – concealer (again LOVE.  YT Guru, Kandee Johnson has raved about this in the past, also known as secret camouflage, as well as Laura Mercier foundation.  I have yet to try the foundation, but I’m dying to.), and brushes and sponges.  The price is a little steeper but I think it’s worth every penny.   Actually I’ll be getting another kit for our vacation, since its travel size friendly and has the primer, moisturizer, and concealer all in one little packet.

To set the tinted moisturizer and add a hint of color, I will be bringing MAC’s Natural Mineralized Skin Finish in Medium Plus.

For that sunkissed glow to my face, I use MAC’s Bronzing Powder in Golden.  If I want less of a sparkly look with a more contouring effect, I use a powdered foundation that’s 3 shades darker than my skin.  I’m currently using Maybelline’s FIT pressed powder in a darker shade.

To add onto the sunkissed glow, Nars Orgasm blush, which is a peachy pink that perfect for any skin tone and goes well with bronzer since there are specks of gold.

If I want a more soft pink look, I’ll be bringing MAC’s Pink Swoon.

Why two blushes?  Why not just one?  Because, different eyemake-up pairs better with various blushes, plus I plan to de-pot these and put them into a UNII palette along with my eyeshadows.

I was thinking about purchasing the Z palette since it was cheaper; however, I’ve read that for traveling, Unii is a better product.  I may buy the Z Palette eventually for home so I can see what eyeshadows are in each container.  Currently, my eyeshadows are in MAC Pro Palettes, but I have to open the container to see what colors are in each Palette.  Lazy.  LOL!

Eyeshadows.  I’m thinking about bringing a couple colors, but basically natural colors with a blend of shimmers and mattes.  I’d love to purchase the Naked Palette from Urban Decay and bring that with me, but I really don’t need all that for vacation.  Off the top of my head, I’ll definitely be bringing MAC’s Brule, Soft Brown, Swiss Chocolate, Espresso, and Carbon for my nude mattes.  For some sparkle, definitely Satin Taupe.  Not sure what else.  I may bring a purple or blue just for some added color, but we’ll see.  I’ll take a picture of the palette for you all when it’s complete.  And to keep all this eye make-up in place, I’m bringing the travel size Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion.

Eyeliners.  This one is tricky.  I LOVE eyeliner.  If you put me on an island and asked me what three products I would bring with me it would be eyeliner, mascara, and lipgloss.  I don’t have very full lashes so eyeliner is necessary.  When getting ready, I usually use Bobbi Brown’s gel liner.  I love tightlining my eyes with this product.  And just in case I need to touch up, I’ll be bringing L’Oreals Le Kohl Carbon Black eyeliner pencil in my purse.  I’m in the process of trying out Maybelline’s Stiletto liquid liner at the moment, so I may bring it with me.  For some neutral-ness and a pop of color, I’m bringing my Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil Duo in Whiskey and Flipside.

Lashes.  Shu Uemura eyecurler, which unfortunately is no longer available at Sephora.  Almost everyone has this eyecurler.  It’s THE eyecurler.  For mascara, it must be waterproof due to the heat and possible sweating (ew) that may occur.  This is my go to mascara, L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes.  I LOVE this stuff.  I may bring fake lashes with me, but I highly doubt it.  We may go out one night but I don’t think I’ll be doing my make-up that dramatically, where I need to put on lashes.  Plus I’m not an expert at putting on lashes and it takes me longer than it should.  Not trying to do all that on vacation.  Extra layers of mascara it is.

Lips.  This may be long, but I swear it doesn’t take that much room.  These products are pretty skinny and small.  I’ll be bringing my NYX lipliner in Natural and Pale Pink.

Cover Girl NatureLuxe Glass Balm in Clove.

NYX Lip Gloss in Pink Frost.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creme in Addis Ababa.

MAC’s Cremesheen Glass in Deelight.

And of course, to moisturize the lips, good old trusty Carmex.

For brushes, AGH.  I have a brush set I got from MAC for Christmas, but they’re more face and eye contouring brushes.  I’m thinking about purchasing this travel brush set from Crown Brushes (these are the brushes make-up pro’s on film sets, photo shoots, etc),  but I like having options.  I’m not bringing foundation so need to bring a foundation brush, but I am bringing mineralized foundation, so a powder brush is needed.  As well as a blush, bronzer, eyeshadow, crease, blending, eyebrow, and eyeliner brushes along with eyebrow and lash combs, tweezers, and eyebrow scissors.  I think if I could get all those 10 (tweezers and eyebrow scissors not included) things in a set I’d be happy for two weeks.  Still searching.  😛

I think thats it.  It may seem like a lot but I’m able to fit all this in a bag somewhat similar to this, which is not cute or fashion forward at all (but I was trying to be cool when I first started travelign and tried to match all my suitcase accessories).  I got mine at Target, a while ago, but I can’t seem to find a similar style on target.com.  Maybe I’ll get a cuter bag for this trip.  Thinking no though because I have WAY too many toiletry bags in our house (make-up, hair products, face products, feminine hygiene, jewelry, etc).  I’m obsessed with organization and keeping similar related products in a similar case/area.

So that’s what will be going in my make-up bag for our summer vacation.  What’s in yours?  What are your methods of saving space and keeping under the weight limits?
