girls with curls

My hair is pretty straight and its pretty difficult for me to keep a curl.  No matter how much hair spray or moose I used, a couple hours later the curls would get loser and eventually there would be a large wave (singular) in my hair… so unchic.  That is until my recent trip to my hair stylist for a haircut.  I love her.  If anyone is in the Bay Area look up Janet at Limon Salon on Stevens Creek in San Jose!  She tells me exactly the best product to use for my hair, but doesn’t pressure me into buying it.  She tells me the best technique to get my hair the style I’d like or the volume I’d like.  Prior to this trip I went a year without cutting it to keep in long for the wedding.  It was pretty ridiculous before this trip.  The day of my hair appointment I had it braided to the side and prior to the appointment I took it out.  I went to my appointment with wavy-ish hair.  As Janet inspected my hair prior to my wash she asked me if I did it on purpose, but it wasn’t.  I was just trying to keep my hair out of my face.  She then asked why my hair was dryer than usual to which I responded I’ve been curling my hair a lot lately because it was just longer than usual and the layers were looking funny if I kept it straight.  I then complained that the products I used wouldn’t keep my hair curled.  She said she had the perfect product that just came in.

Wash.  Cut.  Blowdry.  Styling step later… she introduced me to Bumble & Bumble Texture Hair Undressing Crème.  You put a small dab on your hands, rub both hands together and scrunch your already curled hair.  While the curl doesn’t completely stay coiled the entire day, I definitely have that beach wavy look going.  LOVE IT!  LOVE HER for introducing me to the product.  The product says better when damp; however, my hair isn’t normally wavy so I use it after I curl my hair.  A little goes a long way.  If it feels like you don’t have anymore product dampen your hands a little bit and scrunch some more.

Here’s how I curl my hair.   By no means am I a hair stylist and nor know whether or not this is the correct method.  To dried hair, apply heat protectant spray, if you haven’t  done so already.  Let hair dry a bit.  Then I spray lucido curling lotion spray found at most Japanese speciality tores or on amazon. Tiffany at iam-styleish has talked about this product in multiple posts.  I live around a couple of japnese stores that I snapped this up while I was out buying some rice.  After you spray the product into your hair, comb it through so it’s evenly distributed and let it dry out.  I then start curling my hair from the bottom up back to front using a curling iron or a flat iron.  I’ve been using the Infiniti by Conair Multifunctional Style Iron, which I got from my girlfriend as a bridesmaid present.  I love this thing.  It’s a curling iron and flat iron in one.  Perfect for traveling.  Big fan.  I also use a 1 1/4″ Hot tools ceramic curling iron whenever I’m not using my curling/flat iron.  After I’m completely done curling my hair I put a dab of the Bumble & Bumble Texture Creme onto the palm of my hands and start crunching it into my hair.  I also add some anti-frizz product so my hair doesn’t look all nappy.

After a long day at work.  See my curls lasted all day!  And the waves are very beachy slash wavy.  Yay for an awesome hair dresser and a fantastic product.
